Atlassian adds new Jira features, including AI-generated requirements and assigning tasks to AI agents like Claude and Copilot while preserving context

Atlassian has added generative AI to Jira and unveiled Jira Planner, which can auto-draft requirements.

Jira Planner can use codebases, Confluence, and Jira history to extract work items and assign them to AI agents such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, and Jira Coding Agent, or to humans.

It also supports progress checks and automated routing for routine tasks like bug fixes, vulnerability work, test generation, and documentation updates.

The update brings planning, breakdown, implementation requests, and tracking into Jira, improving the efficiency of human-AI development workflows.
