The First Person Has Been Convicted Under a New US Anti-Deepfake Law

The first conviction under the Take It Down Act has been reported.

Donald Trump signed the law in 2025.

It criminalizes nonconsensual intimate imagery made with editing or AI and requires removal processes.

James Strahler II was arrested in June 2025 and pleaded guilty on all four counts in Ohio federal court.

The DOJ said he used 24 AI platforms and over 100 web-based models to create 700 images, with 2,400 more on his devices.
