ASRock BC-250 used for Steam Machine duty gains third-party hack to unlock all 40 CUs — mining board now has more CUs than a base PS5

A third-party kernel/driver patch can unlock all 40 GPU compute units on ASRock’s BC-250 mining board, up from the default 24.

The board uses a PS5-derived SoC with 16GB of GDDR6 memory, making it an unusual but capable low-cost gaming platform.

Benchmarks in Cyberpunk 2077, Hitman 3, GTA 5, and Spider-Man 2 showed up to 28% better performance after the unlock.

The mod increases power draw and needs solid cooling, but it makes the BC-250 much more appealing for DIY budget builds and Steam Machine-style setups.
