Samsung leaps toward 1,000-layer NAND with first 900-layer V-NAND prototype, stacking two 450-layer cells into one

Samsung has built its first 900-layer V-NAND prototype using Cell Multi-Bonding.

The company combined two 450-layer cell wafers and overcame warping and alignment challenges.

The milestone moves Samsung closer to 1,000-layer NAND, which could boost SSD capacity.

The advance also raises competitive pressure on rivals such as SK Hynix and YMTC.
