Startup plans to put nuclear-powered data centers in the sea — modular units could be much faster to deploy, but questions about reliability and longevity remain

Startup Atomarine proposed offshore data centers on floating barges.

The plan would start with LNG-powered supply ships and later upgrade to small modular nuclear reactors.

The goal is faster deployment and easier scaling without land-based permitting and power bottlenecks.

But the concept still faces major engineering, connectivity, weather, and reactor-viability hurdles.
