PSA: Your watch band may be messing with your laptop – magnetic clasps can cause lid sensors to lock your PC

A Tom’s Hardware reviewer found an Acer Swift Go 16 AI kept jumping to the Windows lock screen while typing.

The cause was not the touchpad or software, but a magnetic watch clasp near the laptop’s sensor.

The magnet fooled the lid sensor into thinking the cover was closed, triggering the lock state.

The issue was reproduced with other magnets, including a fridge magnet, a Qi2 accessory, and an Apple Watch.

It shows how magnetic accessories can create laptop problems that look like hardware faults.
