A self-driving car in Austin killed a mother duck, sparking neighborhood outrage

An Avride autonomous vehicle ran over and killed a duck in Mueller Lake in Austin, Texas.

Residents posted about the incident in a Mueller neighborhood Facebook group, which drew local media attention.

Avride said the vehicle was in autonomous mode and made complete stops at all relevant stop signs.

The company excluded certain streets around the lake from its area of operations after the incident.

Avride is evaluating technology improvements and will run controlled simulation experiments to test changes before implementation.
