Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications issues recommendation to five companies including Google and X for failing to report defamation countermeasures, violating the Information Platform Law

Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications warned Google, X, Meta, Shonan Seibu Home, and Dwango over incomplete transparency reports on anti-defamation measures.

The ministry said the companies failed to fully disclose required information under the Information Distribution Platform Act and ordered corrected republication by August 31.

Google and X were also asked to submit additional improvement plans, with follow-up reporting deadlines set by the ministry.

The move signals Japan is stepping up enforcement of new platform disclosure rules for content moderation and takedown practices.
