China adds homegrown AI chips to 'secure and reliable' procurement list for the first time — nine options added as move away from Nvidia continues

China has certified nine domestically designed AI chips for state procurement under the Anke framework for the first time.

The approved list includes chips from Huawei, Alibaba, Biren, Hygon, Iluvatar, MetaX, and Moore Threads.

Cambricon and Kunlunxin were not included, despite being notable Chinese AI chipmakers.

The three-year approvals will guide purchases by government agencies and state-linked entities.

The move strengthens China’s push to reduce reliance on Nvidia and other foreign hardware in sensitive systems.
