It was supposed to be perpetual use… Office 2019 for Mac will block editing and saving starting next July

Microsoft warned that some Office 2019 for Mac users may enter a limited-function mode after July 13, 2026, when a license certificate expires.

In that mode, users can still open files, but editing and saving will be blocked.

The issue cannot be fixed by upgrading Office 2019 to the latest version, fueling frustration among users.

The case is raising concerns that even perpetual software licenses can lose core functionality because of certificate expirations and OS requirements.
