ChatGPT adds emergency contact feature "Trusted Contact"; notifies on suicide risk detection

OpenAI introduced Trusted Contact, an optional safety feature for adult personal ChatGPT users.

Users can designate one emergency contact, who may receive a brief email or SMS if serious self-harm or suicide risk is detected.

The alert is triggered only when automated systems and human reviewers judge the conversation to indicate high risk.

OpenAI says the feature is designed to connect people in crisis to real-world support while limiting chat-data exposure.
