“I deeply respect you”: Agriculture Minister Suzuki praises the developer behind the sale of fully farmed eel, a result of “decades of research”

Agriculture Minister Norikazu Suzuki praised years of research behind the world's first fully farmed eel to go on trial sale on May 29.

Yamada Suisan began selling the eel both in stores and online, with frozen kabayaki priced at about 4,500 yen per fish.

The trial aims to gauge consumer response as the product moves toward commercialization.

Suzuki also stressed the need for sustainable resource management to protect Japanese eel stocks and avoid overfishing.
