KT, Hit with 13.9 Billion Won Fine for Exaggerated 5G Ads, Loses Lawsuit Against Fair Trade Commission

The Seoul High Court rejected KT’s bid to overturn a Fair Trade Commission order and fine over misleading 5G speed and network-superiority ads.

The court said claims such as “20Gbps” and “20 times faster” could make consumers think those were real-world speeds, and it upheld the fine calculation.

KT has continued to contest the 1.393 billion won penalty and filed an appeal to the Supreme Court on July 23.

The ruling reinforces limits on telecom marketing claims and underscores the legal risk of exaggerated performance comparisons.
