JR East to automatically detect rails likely to warp significantly in high temperatures; daily data collection and analysis to streamline manual checks

JR East has added HARIBOU to its Viz-Rail track maintenance platform to automatically detect early signs of major rail deformation every day during hot summer periods.

Using data collected from onboard equipment on service trains and East-i, the system analyzes variation ranges, identifies candidate problem areas, and displays them on maps and timelines.

The upgrade should help spot dangerous rail warping sooner in summer, reduce the burden of patrols and visual checks, and improve maintenance speed and accuracy.
