A giant submarine cable between Europe and Africa: Orange’s 'lifeline' to secure the internet

Orange and a consortium of seven operators have signed an MoU to advance Via Africa, a new submarine cable linking Europe and Africa’s Atlantic coast.

The project is still at an early stage: the route study must be completed and the manufacturer tender launched before construction can move forward.

Planned landing points include several European and West African countries, aiming to improve international connectivity and bandwidth.

Via Africa is designed to reduce reliance on congested, aging routes and improve internet resilience by limiting the impact of cable failures.
