Iran’s Khondab nuclear site inactive following US-Israel military strikes, UN confirms

Khondab heavy water production plant was knocked out of operation following strikes on March 27.

The IAEA confirmed, based on satellite imagery and knowledge of the installation, that Khondab sustained severe damage and is no longer operational.

The installation contains no declared nuclear material.

Khondab produces heavy water and is part of the Arak nuclear complex near Arak in central Iran.

As part of the JCPOA the Arak reactor core was removed and filled with concrete and the facility was reclassified for medical isotope production; experts had warned the original design could allow weapons‑grade plutonium production if restored.
