Chinese automaker wants to cover EVs with solar cells for up to 50 miles of daily range

FAW Hongqi demonstrated a perovskite solar sunroof prototype on its EHS7 electric SUV, producing up to 300 watts.

The automaker aims to integrate the lightweight panels into body surfaces, potentially adding up to 80 km of daily range in ideal conditions.

Durability, weather resistance, production costs and limited vehicle surface area remain major hurdles to meaningful range gains.
