NVIDIA Is Now All In on Open-Weight AI Models Despite Doing Everything to Maintain Its CUDA Moat

Jensen Huang made his first X post backing open-weight AI models and signed a multi-company letter in support of them.

Major firms including OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Meta, Dell, Perplexity, and others joined the push for open-weight models.

The stance could broaden AI development and boost demand for NVIDIA GPUs, since these models require more compute.

Critics say NVIDIA also benefits from the trend while continuing to defend CUDA and its wider software-hardware ecosystem.
