Blocking distribution of caller ID spoofing devices… Amendment to the Telecommunications Business Act passes Cabinet meeting

South Korea approved a revised Telecommunications Business Act to crack down on voice phishing and caller ID spoofing.

The law bans manufacturing, importing, distributing, selling, or renting caller ID spoofing devices.

Subscription-blocking service will become the default for all users, and ownership-change review rules for major telecom operators will be tightened.

Violations can carry up to three years in prison or fines of up to 100 million won, with some measures taking effect immediately and others after six months.
