Sony Not Budging on Ending PlayStation Discs Despite Fan Protests: “We’re Going to Cautiously Move This Forward”

Sony reaffirmed that it plans to stop releasing physical PlayStation discs for new games starting in 2028.

CFO Lin Tao said the company understands fan opposition but will keep pushing the shift to digital distribution.

Sony also said it is discussing the transition with regional retail partners.

Fans and physical-game advocates have criticized the move and are even talking about boycotts.
