Micron's Virginia fab begins producing America's most advanced DRAM memory — fab expansion to quadruple output, easing DDR4 shortage for automotive and defense sectors

Micron has begun 1α DRAM production at its Manassas, Virginia fab, backed by CHIPS Act funding.

The new line will quadruple DDR4 output to support customers in automotive, defense, aerospace, industrial, networking, and medical devices.

It comes as DDR4 supply tightens and memory makers shift more capacity toward AI-focused products like HBM, DDR5, and LPDDR5X.

The U.S. expansion strengthens domestic supply for long-cycle industries and supports semiconductor reshoring efforts.
