Google Search said it will classify back button hijacking as a malicious practice under its spam policy.

Pages using the tactic may face ranking losses or other penalties starting June 15, 2026.

Sites should audit scripts, libraries, and ad tech that manipulate browser history to avoid Search visibility hits.
