Valve moves to dismiss gambling lawsuit against Counter-Strike 2 cases

Valve has asked a New York court to dismiss a lawsuit claiming Counter-Strike 2 case openings amount to illegal gambling for minors.

The company says CS2 cases are entertainment collectibles, not gambling products, and warns the lawsuit’s logic could reach other consumer goods.

The New York Attorney General’s case, led by Letitia James, targets the Steam Marketplace and Valve’s case-opening system.

If the suit advances, it could force changes to CS2’s loot box-style system and set a wider precedent for randomized digital items.
