Stop Killing Games bill passes first vote in California

California’s Assembly passed the Protect Our Games Act, moving the bill to the State Senate for committee review.

The proposal would require publishers to give advance notice before shutting down server-dependent purchased games.

It would also require a way to keep those games playable after shutdown, such as offline access or community servers.

The rules would apply only to games released after January 2027.
