AI agents get their own desktop in AWS

AWS is adding a WorkSpaces feature that lets AI agents use desktop apps like a person, including clicking, typing, scrolling, and reading screens.

The move is aimed at enterprises with legacy software that lacks APIs, so they can automate workflows without rewriting apps.

AWS says the setup keeps security and logging in place through services like IAM, CloudTrail, and CloudWatch, and supports MCP-based agent frameworks.

The company also demoed a pharmacy workflow, while critics warned screen-based agents can be slower and more expensive than API integrations.
