BYD’s new Racco is Japan’s first electric kei car with over 300 km range

BYD has launched the Racco, its first electric kei car made specifically for Japan.

The model offers two battery options, up to 320 km of range, and a starting price below Nissan’s Sakura before taxes and subsidies.

It also targets local preferences with features like sliding doors, vehicle-to-load support, and NFC phone-key access.

The move puts new pressure on Japan’s protected kei car segment and on domestic automakers such as Nissan and Honda.
