Inside The Mission To Turn Star Trek Into The Next Big Magic: The Gathering Set

Wizards of the Coast is developing a Star Trek expansion for Magic: The Gathering’s Universes Beyond line, with first cards debuting July 14 and a full release planned for November.

The design team says the set is built for engine-building and longer games, using a new Dilemma mechanic to capture Star Trek’s character-driven storytelling.

Gavin Verhey and Matt Tabak said the goal is to translate dialogue, choices, and tension into gameplay with tools like modal spells.

The crossover extends Magic’s franchise strategy into Star Trek and could help broaden the game’s audience.
