384-ton battery-powered dump truck showcases its power in recent demonstration

Hitachi Construction Machinery demonstrated a full battery-powered dump truck at Zambia’s Kansanshi Copper Mine after a feasibility trial with First Quantum Minerals.

The truck ran in real mining conditions, including simultaneous charging and driving on trolley lines, and moved more than 30,000 tons over 4,000 km.

The test highlights a practical path to lower emissions in large-scale mining without reducing productivity.

Hitachi aims to commercialize the truck in fiscal 2027, alongside broader industry efforts to electrify heavy equipment.
