Your Eyes Could Reveal Your Risk of Osteoporosis, Study Finds

A study found that faster retinal aging, measured with AI from eye images, was linked to lower bone density and a higher future risk of osteoporosis.

Researchers trained a deep learning model on retinal images from large cohorts in Singapore, South Korea, and the UK to estimate biological eye age.

People with older-looking retinas had lower bone mineral density and higher odds of developing osteoporosis, even after adjusting for major risk factors.

If validated, retinal imaging could become a simple, noninvasive screening tool to identify people at higher osteoporosis risk before fractures happen.
