Valve VRAM hack may improve gaming on 4GB GPUs — testing showed mixed results in select titles, with FPS almost tripling in certain games

A tester checked Valve’s VRAM prioritization patch on a 4GB Radeon RX 6500 XT and found uneven results across games.

Alan Wake II saw a dramatic boost, with average FPS nearly tripling, while some other titles only improved slightly.

Games like Resident Evil: Requiem, Silent Hill f, Hogwarts Legacy, and Cyberpunk 2077 showed little to modest change.

The patch may help make low-VRAM GPUs more playable, but it does not lower VRAM requirements and performance still depends on the game.
