Microsoft unveils 'Project Solara,' an OS for AI agents... based on Android, not Windows

Microsoft unveiled Project Solara at Build 2026, an Android-based OS designed to run AI agents across devices like speakers, badges, and earbuds.

The company also showed concept hardware, including a face-unlock desk device, to highlight its push into ambient AI experiences.

Microsoft launched the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box with an NVIDIA RTX Spark chip and 128GB unified memory for developers.

Satya Nadella said Windows AI APIs are expanding to more PCs with support for CPU, GPU, and NPU.
