Whoever controls the seas controls global trade: ranking of the world's busiest ports

A Lloyd’s List-based ranking named Shanghai the world’s busiest container port in 2024, handling 51.5 million TEU.

The top 20 ports moved 414.6 million TEU in total, with 14 of them located in Asia.

China dominated the list: five of the top six ports were Chinese, underscoring Asia’s lead in global shipping.

The data highlights where logistics capacity and economic power are concentrated across world trade.
