Supercomputer finds lithium-titanium tweak to boost sodium-ion batteries for grids

UC San Diego researchers used the Expanse supercomputer and AI to test a lithium-titanium tweak to a sodium-ion battery cathode.

The adjustment improved energy storage, high-voltage stability, and cycle life in the simulations.

The findings could speed development of lower-cost, scalable batteries for storing solar and wind power.

That could reduce reliance on more expensive lithium-ion systems for grid storage.
