Personal Information Commission approves prior adequacy review for Naver Search AI agent 'AI Tab'

South Korea’s privacy regulator approved the pre-review for Naver’s AI Tab search agent, clearing a path for launch if conditions are met.

Naver must provide clear opt-out guidance and ongoing user control, disclose personalized data use transparently, and strengthen safeguards.

The commission also requires measures to prevent sensitive or identifying information from being inferred or surfaced in AI answers.

After launch, regulators will check whether Naver is fully complying with the agreed privacy protections.
