Nearly 50,000 Lake Tahoe residents have one year to find new power as their utility pivots to data centers

NV Energy will stop supplying electricity to Liberty Utilities after May 2027, affecting about 49,000 Lake Tahoe customers.

Liberty must secure a new power source or build transmission alternatives to replace the current supply from NV Energy.

The change reflects growing strain on Nevada’s grid as data centers consume more electricity and reshape regional energy planning.
