High-performance bamboo drones validated in Chinese study with new control software

A Chinese team built the first open-source flight control system specifically for bamboo-frame drones.

They created a dedicated control board with dual IMUs and tuned algorithms to handle bamboo's low-frequency (8–20 Hz) vibrations.

The tuned extended Kalman filter and hardware changes cut control latency from 15–20 ms to 8–10 ms and improved interoperability via MAVLink.

Researchers published their results in Heilongjiang Science and released software and structural settings as open-source to ease adaptation.
