Just like humans, this robot can hear music and play it after just two minutes of self-practice

USC researchers built the Musician Hand, a four-finger robot that learned piano playing through brief self-exploration.

After about two minutes of random pressing, it mapped finger motion to piano keys, identified notes with neural networks, and replayed a 30-note melody on its first try.

In blind tests, judges sometimes could not tell the robot apart from trained pianists, while untrained adults struggled to match the tune.

The result suggests robots may learn dexterous tasks with less training and compute, with potential applications in rehabilitation devices.
