After deploying its data centers in Aragon, Amazon wants to protect Zaragoza from flooding

Zaragoza, regional authorities and AWS have agreed on a three-phase flood-resilience plan after a July 2023 cloudburst caused major damage.

The plan combines hydraulic works in Barranco de la Muerte with a cloud-based early-warning and real-time monitoring platform.

AWS will contribute €13.8 million over three years to support the project.

The measures aim to better protect more than 700,000 residents and key transport corridors such as the Z-30 and Parque Venecia.
