Reddit cracks down on bots with new labels and human verification

Reddit announced new bot labeling system labels for automated accounts that provide services to users will be introduced starting this year.

Will require some accounts to verify they are human verification triggered when systems detect signs of automation such as rapid posting or anomalous activity.

Stated verification will focus on identity confirmation while preserving anonymity, cEO Steve Huffman said verification will confirm a person is behind an account, not identify who that person is.

Plans to accept external credentialing tools for verification accepted methods include passkeys from Apple and Google, YubiKey, Face ID, and World ID.

May require government-issued IDs in some jurisdictions countries that mandate age or identity verification—including the UK, Australia, and some US states—could require government IDs.
