Why Is Everyone Losing Their Minds Over This Little Old Mars Pyramid?

NASA’s Mars Global Surveyor captured 2001 satellite images showing a three-sided, pyramid-like feature in Candor Chasma (Valles Marineris).

The feature has been described as roughly the size of the Great Pyramid of Egypt.

Egyptian pyramids have four sides (or eight faces when counted), unlike this three-sided form.

Mars Institute chairman and SETI Institute planetary scientist Pascal Lee said it is not an alien archaeological site and that wind shaped it; the rock layers match regional geology.

Skeptics note similar natural pyramidal formations on Earth, such as Cerro Tusa (about 1,500 feet above surrounding terrain) and pyramids in Guizhou Province, China.
