California Lawmakers Are Working on a Bill to Preserve Access to Online Games

California lawmakers advanced the Protect Our Games Act, a bill aimed at preserving access to online games after official support ends.

The measure would require publishers to warn players before shutting down required services and offer either refunds or a playable version that no longer depends on operator-controlled servers.

It would apply only to games released from 2027 onward, with exemptions for free-to-play and subscription-only titles.

The proposal addresses a growing consumer ownership issue in live-service gaming, where shutdowns can make purchased games unplayable.
