Google is redesigning its app icons to fix a big problem

Google is preparing a visual refresh for Workspace app icons, including Meet, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Chat.

The new look uses gradients, glow effects, and more varied shapes and colors to make the apps easier to tell apart.

The redesign addresses a long-running usability issue by improving recognition at a glance across devices and screen sizes.

The change fits with Google’s broader Material 3 Expressive direction and may appear ahead of I/O 2026.
