The Witcher 3's secret cow guardian is still surprising players 11 years later

An early Witcher 3 money exploit in White Orchard let players kill and respawn cows to farm cash.

CD Projekt Red responded by adding a high-level chort guardian that appears after six cow kills, creating the famous “Bovine Defense Force.”

That fix briefly became its own farming loop before being patched again so only one chort can spawn until the player leaves and returns.

The result is a hidden anti-exploit encounter that still surprises players years later and shows how patches can create unexpected side effects.
