Roo Code pivots to cloud-based agent, says IDEs aren’t the future of coding

Roo Code will shut down its VS Code extension, Cloud, and Router services on May 15.

It is replacing them with Roomote, a cloud agent that works across Slack, GitHub, and Linear.

The company wants developers to review agent output rather than code inside the editor.

The shift reflects a broader move from IDE-centric tools to autonomous agents that can complete tasks end to end.
