We thought teleworking was here to stay. In much of Europe, that is true; not so much in Spain

From 2015 to 2024, working from home in the EU nearly tripled, though adoption still varies widely by country.

Spain remains in the middle of the pack, with around 15% of workers teleworking fully or partly, but growth has slowed.

The slowdown reflects weaker employer support for remote work and a broader return-to-office trend.

Telework is far more common in office and service jobs than in sectors that require physical presence, such as farming, retail and hospitality.

The shift is reshaping labor markets, work-life balance, mobility, energy use and the boundaries of the working day.
