Tokyo police will provide mist fans to riot officers guarding important facilities outdoors to help prevent heatstroke in extreme summer heat.

The measure is temporary and will continue until temperatures ease, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department.

Specific deployment locations and the number of fans are being kept confidential for security reasons.

Other heat-protection gear, including sunglasses, bottle holders, and ventilated anti-cut clothing, is already permitted.
