Ebola outbreak now third largest recorded and "spreading rapidly"

WHO said the Ebola outbreak in Ituri province, eastern DR Congo, has grown to nearly 750 cases and 177 deaths.

About 1,400 contacts are being traced, while the national risk level was raised to very high.

WHO warned the outbreak is still spreading quickly because detection and response were delayed.

The outbreak is unfolding in a fragile, conflict-hit region with no proven vaccine or treatment for this strain.
