Percona celebrates 20th birthday with new foundation — and a goat cake

Percona marked its 20th anniversary with a rebrand at the Computer History Museum in Mountain View.

The company launched a new nonprofit foundation to support the MySQL community and keep open-source databases independent.

Percona said it is doubling down on database services and moving away from its DBaaS platform.

Leaders framed the effort as a push against proprietary control and vendor lock-in, including Oracle’s influence.
