Microsoft plans 100% native Windows 11 apps in major shift away from web wrappers

Microsoft plans to make Windows 11 apps fully native — Huyn said the new apps will be "100% native".

Rudy Huyn is forming a new team focused on native experiences instead of web-based wrappers.

Huyn emphasized strong product thinking, a deep customer focus, and prioritizing platform-agnostic experience.

Built-in tools such as Clipchamp and Copilot currently rely on web technologies and Progressive Web App architectures.

Planned updates include faster File Explorer launches and context menus, Start menu moving to WinUI, a resizable/repositionable taskbar, a compact Windows 10-like layout, and a pledge to rebuild apps natively.
