Bad cholesterol slashed 62% by single dose of gene-editing drug in small trial

A small early trial found that one dose of VERVE-102 lowered LDL cholesterol by 62%.

The gene-editing drug was developed by Verve Therapeutics and is now owned by Eli Lilly.

Participants had early cardiovascular disease or inherited high cholesterol, but the study was small.

Researchers say the results are promising but preliminary, and larger, longer trials are still needed.

The FDA has already granted VERVE-102 Fast Track status.
